Međugorje (meaning land between the hills) was just that, a small village in the Herzegovina region of Bosnia, fairly obscure until one fateful day in the summer of 1981 when a group of young children reported experiencing an encounter with the Virgin Mary on a nearby hill. The Apparitions of Our Lady have continued for some of those young visionaries to this day and this small, unremarkable village has become one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in Europe for Catholics from all around the world. It is not possible to visit Međugorje and spend time in the church of St. Jacob, Krizevac mountain or on Apparition hill without experiencing the peaceful spirituality that abounds the area.
