Surrounded by Olympic mountains of the Dinaric Alps, Sarajevo is the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina and quite literally where the East clashed into West. It is one of the most historically interesting and cuturally diverse places in the world. The Islamic, Orthodox, Catholic and Judaic influences and religious traditions live on side by side here, in a stunning natural setting. The city’s vast historic diversity is strongly reflected in its architecture. Parts of the city have a very Western-European look, while other parts of the city, sometimes just across the street, have a completely distinct Ottoman feel. Even the turbulant and oftentimes tragic parts of Sarajevo’s past have played an important role forming the multiculturally tolerant, cosmopolitan European capital we love to explore today.
